Advanced Garment: Make Your Own Jeans

Join us for a slower-paced version of our popular jeans intensive where you'll create your own jeans. This version of our jeans class gives students more time to work with Beth to create a pair of jeans custom-fit for your body and style.
Choose from the Dawn Jeans by Megan Nielsen (Women’s size 0 - 30; 24”-48” waist) or the Fulford Jeans by Thread Theory (Men’s size 26-50; 26”-50” waist).
The Dawn Jeans are a timeless, vintage-inspired, high-waisted jean made from non-stretch denim. With four style options—tapered (View A), straight (View B), wide-leg (View C), and jean shorts (View D)—you'll have plenty of creative freedom.
The Fulford Jeans are a classic straight-leg jean with a regular fit in the thigh and straight legs. Sewn from non-stretch denim, they feature a conservatively high rise reminiscent of vintage work jeans, sitting just below the waist.
Class Overview:
This class series begins with a fitting and cutting party! Beth will guide you through taking measurements, selecting the perfect size, tracing your pattern, and cutting out your muslin. Once this is done, you'll also sew up and fit your muslin.
After your muslin is completed and any needed alterations are made to your pattern, you'll launder your denim to ensure it shrinks before you cut and sew it.
Finally, you will sew your jeans - including adding front pockets, decorative stitching to your back pockets, a zip fly, contrast top-stitching, and hardware. Depending on the pace at which you work, you should finish with a beautifully tailored pair of jeans and a newfound sense of sewing confidence.
