Our Zero Waste Patterns series continues with the Trousers from Zero Waste Patterns by Birgitta Helmersson. Join Beth as we take another deep dive into the wonderfully clever world of zero-waste garment sewing—this time making a pair of pants!
Instead of cutting traditional pattern pieces and figuring out what to do with everything left behind, zero-waste garment making starts with the fabric itself. You’ll learn how to follow a zero-waste cutting plan, make the most of your yardage, and transform those carefully planned pieces into a pair of wearable trousers.
Beth will guide you through the cutting and construction process from start to finish, helping you understand not just what to do, but how the zero-waste approach works. It’s a great opportunity to build your garment-sewing skills while learning a completely different way to think about pattern cutting, fabric use, and construction.

New to zero-waste sewing? Come on in! You do not need to have taken one of our previous Zero Waste Patterns workshops to participate.

| Skill Details: | This is a beginner garment class, but not a beginner sewing class. You should know how to use a sewing machine, including winding a bobbin and threading the needle. You should have some knowledge of seam allowances. If you need to learn to use a machine and understand seam allowance we recommend taking our Make Friends with your Machine workshop first. |

| Instructor Bio: | Beth is an accomplished seamstress who has taught sewing classes for Mt. Airy Learning Tree. She currently works at the Philadelphia Art Museum and has been doing reproduction sewing & upholstery there since 2005. A patient instructor, she loves walking sewists through the magic of garment construction, helping them build their own handmade wardrobes. |
