Zero Waste Series: Wrap Top
Our Zero Waste Series continues—and this time we’re making the Wrap Top!
Join Beth as we dive back into Zero Waste Patterns by Birgitta Helmersson and explore another clever approach to garment making. The Wrap Top uses thoughtful cutting and construction to transform your fabric into a beautiful, wearable garment while creating little to no fabric waste along the way.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to interpret a zero-waste cutting plan, lay out and cut your fabric, and work through the unique construction of the Wrap Top. Unlike traditional garment sewing, where pattern pieces are arranged on yardage and the leftovers become scraps, zero-waste sewing asks you to think about the entire piece of fabric as part of the design. It’s part sewing, part puzzle—and a really fun way to look at garment making differently.
The finished Wrap Top is an easy-to-wear addition to your handmade wardrobe, with a wrap silhouette that gives you plenty of opportunities to play with fabric, color, and print.

| Skill Details: | This is a beginner garment class, but not a beginner sewing class. You should know how to use a sewing machine, including winding a bobbin and threading the needle. You should have some knowledge of seam allowances. If you need to learn to use a machine and understand seam allowance we recommend taking our Make Friends with your Machine workshop first. |

| Instructor Bio: | Beth is an accomplished seamstress who has taught sewing classes for Mt. Airy Learning Tree. She currently works at the Philadelphia Art Museum and has been doing reproduction sewing & upholstery there since 2005. A patient instructor, she loves walking sewists through the magic of garment construction, helping them build their own handmade wardrobes. |
