Beginner Garment: Sew the Sauvie Sundress

Get ready for trips down the shore and fun in Philly by making your own Sauvie Sundress. The Sauvie from Sew House Seven is the perfect summer dress with a striking back V-neckline, lots of ease, and wide straps. Best of all…it has pockets!
This easygoing, versatile sundress is perfect for confident beginners and seasoned sewists alike. This dress has two options for the waist (loose or wide elasticized), two hem lengths (above the knee, midi), and an optional bottom ruffle for the midi version. It works up beautifully in cotton, linens, lawns, rayons, and more. Make it yours!
The Sauvie Sundress - Standard Fit pattern is available in sizes 00-20, and the Sauvie Sundress - Curvy Fit pattern is available in sizes 16-34.
What You Will Learn
This class will teach you how to:

Trace and cut out pattern pieces

Make bust darts
Depending on which version of the dress you make, you will also learn how to make:

Topstitched, single-layer pockets or in-seam, loose pockets

An elastic waist tunnel

Mitered corners on side vents

Gathers for a ruffle

Who Should Attend
This class is intended for confident beginners or seasoned sewists looking for dedicated time to make a great dress.
This is a beginner-level garment class, but not a beginning sewing class. You must be comfortable winding a bobbin and threading a needle on a sewing machine. If you would like to learn how to use a sewing machine, sign up for our Make Friends with Your Machine workshop.

Additional Information
Parking:
Free street parking is available on Germantown Avenue, Carpenter Lane, Meehan Street, and surrounding side streets. Please note that even if parking is free, there may be an enforced time limit. You may need to walk a bit to get to the shop, please plan accordingly.
Mass Transit:
The SEPTA 23 bus from Market Street Station in Center City headed towards Chestnut Hill stops directly in front of Needles & Bolts.
