Sundays In Stitches #8: The Charlie Caftan
SUNDAYS IN STITCHES: A 9-DRESS WORKSHOP SERIES
Join our Weekly Dress Workshop Series – Sundays at Needles & Bolts!
This workshop registration is for the Charlie Caftan #8 out of 9 dresses.
Nothing says summer elegance quite as well as a dramatic caftan. Charlie is a fresh take on this warm-weather staple.
Featuring a deep V neckline, short dolman sleeves, inset center panel and roomy pockets, this caftan is modern and architectural with striking pleats beneath the bust. For a softer, more romantic dress, Views B & C feature a gently gathered bodice with an optional waist tie for a figure-skimming silhouette in two skirt lengths. You may also choose between a dramatically wide sleeve or one slightly higher cut for more coverage.
Requirements:
- Use the size guides to determine fabric requirements: Size 0-20 | Size 14-32
- lightweight fusible interfacing - amount depends on dress style
- polyester thread
Kick off 2025 with our Weekly Dress Workshop, running Sundays from January through March. Whether you're a beginner or ready to level up your skills, this series offers something for everyone with 9 stunning dresses to sew. You can sign up for the whole series or choose individual workshops based on your interest and skill level.
What’s on the schedule?
- The Renee Pinafore (a Stitch Jawn original)
A beginner-friendly pinafore dress that’s perfect for layering over tank tops in the summer and sweaters in the winter. This versatile design features clean lines and simple construction, plus generous pockets! - The Philly Swing (a Stitch Jawn original)
A playful, A-line dress with lots of movement. Its relaxed fit makes it comfortable for everyday wear, while still having style appeal. - The Teresa Dress (a NEW Stitch Jawn original)
A debut piece! Expect an exciting and fresh design that blends comfort and creativity in an original style. - The Benning Dress (Seamwork): This V-neck, tiered dress offers a flowy silhouette and is great for color-blocking. Sewn in lightweight fabrics like cotton or linen, it’s ideal for spring and summer
- The Reynolds Dress (Helen’s Closet): A breezy and minimalist tank dress with adjustable straps. Perfect for a hot day, this dress pairs well with linens or light cotton fabrics.
- The Orchard Dress (Helen’s Closet): The Orchard features spaghetti straps and a dartless a-line silhouette. Pockets make it super versatile! Make it with fabrics like linen, cotton, or chambray.
- The Tea House Dress (Sew House Seven): A relaxed and elegant kimono-style dress with clean lines and unique detailing. Perfect for linen or drapey fabrics.
- The Charlie Caftan (Closet Core): A chic caftan with multiple variations including a maxi length. Great for creating a relaxed yet elevated look.
- The Emerald Dress (Made by Rae): A classic, simple shift dress designed to offer comfort in the summer heat. Sewn on the bias, you'll learn how to work with fabric in a whole new way. We love it with sandals and a hat on hot days, or layered under a warm sweater or cowl as the seasons change and the days turn cool.
Classes start easy and progress in complexity as we go, making it perfect for beginners looking to learn new skills and experienced sewists ready for a challenge. Each class runs for a full day on Sunday. We’ll provide the pattern—you bring the fabric, thread, and any notions required.
Special perks for signing up:
- Register for all 9 classes and receive a Dressmaker’s Kit (a $50 value) + a $50 gift card to use toward fabric.
- Sign up for 5 or more classes, and you'll still get the Dressmaker’s Kit!
Classes will be held in our Maker Space at Needles & Bolts. Spots are limited to 6 seats per class, so don't miss out on this creative journey!
