Foundation Paper Pieced Basics - The Economy Block

Get ready to master the art of precise piecing! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you'll learn the fundamentals of foundation paper piecing (FPP) — a technique that allows you to create intricate quilt blocks with sharp points and perfect angles. We'll guide you step-by-step through the process, from understanding your pattern to sewing and trimming with confidence.
In this class, we'll be making an Economy Block, a classic design that's perfect for learning the basics of FPP. By the end of the session, you'll have a completed practice block and the know-how to tackle more complex designs.
Perfect Prep for the Karma Court Block of the Month!
Our Karma Court Block of the Month program kicks off in October, and this class is designed to help you feel prepared and excited to participate. Whether you're joining the BOM or just want to add a new skill to your quilting toolkit, this workshop is for you.
What to Bring:
- Add-A-Quarter ruler
- Fabric glue stick
- Fabric scraps for practice: Fussy cut squares between 3.5" & 4" for centers + coordinating fat quarters or larger scrap pieces for the surrounding pieces
We'll provide the paper patterns and plenty of tips and tricks to make your FPP journey a success!

Food/Beverages
This is a long day of sewing. We do not have snacks or drinks at the shop - you will want to pack lunch/snacks and a beverage/bottled water (in a covered container, please). There are a few restaurants nearby (Malelani, Downtime Bakery, Mt. Airy Breakfast Boutique) where you can order food for pick up if you don’t want to pack a lunch.
Parking + Transit
Parking is free with no limit on the weekends on Germantown Ave and free with no limit anytime on the side streets: Meehan, Carpenter Lane & Gorges. The 23 bus from Market Street stops right in front of the shop. Our regional rail station is Carpenter Lane.

Instructor Bio: | Carol is a lifelong Mt. Airy resident. She has been a sewing instructor in the Philadelphia area for many years. She is educated as a Trained Sewing Educator thru the Home Sewing Association and studied Industrial Fashion Methods at Philadelphia University. Her favorite item to sew is garments but also enjoys machine embroidery and quilting. Teaching serger classes is her specialty. Follow her sewing adventures on Instagram @ceesews. |
