Spend an evening with Season Evans as she shares her work and discusses her process for creating beautiful art quilts. Season's Artist Statement: I am a quilt and textile artist creating functional quilts, patchwork art pieces, and site-specific installations. Rooted in traditional quilt making and with a dedication to craft, I see quilts as objects and as storytellers, using the simplicity of line and the essentials of geometry to create visual stories of everyday life. The goal of my work is to focus on narrative using the essential elements of a pattern and material. My fascination with narrative, the essentials of materials, and the root of pattern creates a space for my process to continually evolve, allowing me to tell stories honoring quilt making practices while discovering new methods and aesthetics. The quilt making process - an intimate, tactile, and repetitive process - becomes meditation, with each stitch reinforcing the relationship between material and story. A finished quilt and its narrative creates a dialogue between minimal geometry and the emotional response.

Cost: $ 25.00
this class you will create a minimalist patchwork wall hanging using improvisational techniques. The class is designed to challenge your improv process by restraining the number of fabrics used and paring down choices through thoughtful subtraction. The goal is to minimize patchwork and color to get to the essence of the quilt panel until it becomes simply the abstraction of an idea. Even if you are not a minimalist or an improv piecer, this process will remind you to make stronger coordinating and contrasting fabric selections, to refine the focus in your original designs, and to incorporate negative space more effectively. At the end of class you will have your own 11? x 14? piece of textile artwork!
